Version 1.0 · Effective June 25, 2026 · Terms of Service
Money Talks is designed as a local-first private finance app. Your ledger, receipts, categories, people, splits, subscriptions, inbox items, automation history, reports, and settings are stored in an encrypted local vault on your device.
By default, Money Talks does not sell your data, does not show ads, does not build advertising profiles, and does not send your ledger to any third-party analytics service.
Data stored on your device
Data you may store locally includes transactions, receipt OCR text, imported SMS or file text, categories, accounts, people, split and reimbursement records, subscriptions, savings goals, notes, preferences, automation decisions, notification settings, widget summaries, calendar mappings, and export history.
Raw SMS, receipt, OCR, and imported file text is not retained unless you enable raw import retention. Turning retention off purges previously retained raw import text from the local vault.
iCloud sync (optional)
Optional iCloud sync, when enabled, syncs only encrypted vault payloads through your private CloudKit database. Money Talks does not use CloudKit as a readable ledger database. Deleting all app data also removes any encrypted vault copy synced to your private iCloud.
Widgets, Shortcuts, and notifications
Widgets receive only a compact, encrypted, privacy-aware summary through the app group. Privacy mode hides exact amounts in widgets and sensitive app surfaces that support it.
Shortcuts and App Intents process the transaction or SMS text you provide and write results to the encrypted local vault. Shortcuts data is subject to Apple’s Shortcuts and system privacy behavior.
Notifications use privacy-safe body text when privacy mode or notification privacy mode is enabled.
Receipts and calendar
Receipt camera/photo import uses on-device OCR. Calendar export creates planning summaries for Apple Calendar or .ics files and avoids raw SMS, raw OCR text, and encrypted-vault internals.
Your controls
You can export local summaries, export encrypted backups, disable raw retention, disable iCloud sync, hide widget amounts, and delete all local Money Talks data from the app’s data controls.
